Take Ten to Write

“Bad Reputation”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Fool.

I feel like fools are given a bad reputation. I mean, we’re no different from humans or elves or dwarves. I honestly can’t say that I know why humans use the word ‘fool’ to describe someone who acts irrationally, or ‘foolishly’ as one might say. But I think that we just need to be given a chance to show our true colours.

Take my sister, for example. She was one of the bravest fools, if not one of the bravest of any type of creature, in the world. She would go on these adventures to discover new types of berries. She would venture to distant lands to find these berries and she wouldn’t return home until she succeeded. Now, if that doesn’t show commitment and bravery, then I don’t know what does.

Not to brag or anything, but my entire family is filled with brave and dedicated individuals. If you ask me, my family defines fools.

My father is a businessman. He travels between lands to sell his wares, so I rarely see him. Still, he sends letters to keep us updated of his adventures. Sometimes I wish I could go with him to see how he runs his business, but he’s always told me to stay home and help care for my little brother.

Then, there’s my mother. Her job is quite similar to that of my sister’s, but she focuses on moss rather than berries. She doesn’t travel anymore, but she used to tell my siblings and me these terrific stories about her journeys. She inspired my sister to begin her adventuring career, which I think is just hte coolest.

As for me, well I just write about everything my family does. I’m not big on travelling, though I do have to attend a conference that the King put together to speak about my species and why I think we should be given fair representation in the court.

When I go, I’ll be sure to keep this journal updated. Maybe one day, I’ll look back and be able to make an entire book out of my notes!

Final Comments: Honestly, I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to write about. It kind of turned out to be more of a non-fiction piece but with obvious fantasy. It’s definitely not one of my favourites…
