“Back Again”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Prompt: Write a story titled “Back Again”.

“You!” she hisses. In a flash, she’s standing before me, holding a knife against my throat. “I thought I told you to never come back here.”

“Since when have I listened to you?” I scoff. I wince slightly as she digs the knife into my skin. “Listen, you know I wouldn’t have come back unless I had no other choice.”

“You still don’t have a choice,” she scowls. “You’re not welcome here, Hammun. You’re lucky I haven’t slit your throat already.”

“Yeah, and you’re not going to,” I say. “You would’ve done it already.”

“Shut up,” she snaps, releasing me. “And get out.”

Rubbing my neck, I say, “Don’t you want to hear my job proposition first?”

She scowls but I see a flicker of interest in her eyes. A smile tugs at my lips; I’ve got her.

Final Comments: I feel like I could’ve put more indicators of their relationship/previous meeting into this scene.
