Take Ten to Write

“A Reckless Idea”

Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!

Prompt: “The only sure weapon against bad ideas is better ideas.” – Alfred Whitney Griswold

“Well do you have a better idea?” Whitney hissed, crouching beside Marty as arrows embedded themselves into the trees around them.

Marty clutched his sword, knuckles white. “Well, no,” he muttered. Deciding that risking a look was worth it, he peeked out from behind his tree. An arrow zipped past his nose, just barely missing him. He jerked back into the protection of the trunk and said, “I’ve got a reckless idea. Does that work?”

Whitney clenched her jaw as an arrow grazed her arm. “Sure,” she gasped, trying to hide her pain, “anything is better than what I had, I guess. But can we please do it quick?”

Steeling himself, Marty darted through the trees to join Whitney behind hers. “Okay,” he whispered, “here’s what we’re going to do…”

Final Comments: I thought I had an idea for this one. Turns out I didn’t… Anyone got a better one?
