“A Mother’s Love”
Author’s Note: This is a Take Ten to Write story and has not been proofread for errors. If I feel inspired or if there’s interest in the story, I’ll post a revised, edited, and extended version at a later date. Happy reading!
Prompt: Write a story titled “A Mother’s Love”.
I love my mother.
She’s soft and warm and she’s always there when I need her.
The only problem is that I need to share her with my ten other brothers and sisters. I really don’t like sharing my mother. She should only pay attention to me! I’m the oldest, after all!
One day, when we were at the pond, my mother told us to go play. I saw my chance.
I told all ten of my brothers and sisters that we should play our favourite game: hide and seek! They all said ‘yes, yes, yes, let’s play!’ So I told them to hide and to not come out even if our mother called for them. They all said ‘okay, let’s go hide!’ while I counted to ten.
But then… I didn’t go find them! Instead, when they all went to hide, I stayed with my mother and we spent the whole day playing, just the two of us.
When it was time to leave the pond, my mother called for my brothers and sisters, but none of them came out. I was so happy: I had my mother all to myself for the rest of my life!
But my mother wasn’t very happy with me. She stared at me with those disappointed eyes until I told her the truth. Then, we spent the rest of the day looking for my brothers and sisters until we had found each and every one.
So now, I still have to share my mother with all my brothers and sisters. I still don’t think it’s fair, but I still love my mother and I know that she loves me.
Final Comments: I didn’t really like the ending to this one… I liked writing from a younger narrator’s perspective though; it was a lot of fun to try to communicate simple and innocent thoughts.
