Music prompt: “We Are Alive” by Supreme Devices

The flames rose, trapping him in his little pocket of safety. Fear flooded his thoughts, freezing his muscles and forcing tears up into his eyes. He wanted his Mama, but he couldn’t find her; there was only fire.

No, there. A dark shadow, looming over him. The flames parted before the figure, almost as if they worshipped it.

His tears stopped, as did the shadow. Long, strong arms reached out toward him. They held him firmly, protecting him from the flames that had moments ago been trying to grab him.

This figure–this hero–carried him to safety. It reunited him with his Mama. It gave him his life.

On this day, he remembers that moment. He remembers the bravery, the strength, the feat of impossibility. He remembers the relief, the joy, the thankfulness.

He takes one final breath before plunging into the flames, following the cries of a little boy who needs him to be the hero.

Final Comments: This music felt really heroic…
